Julian Casablancas just put Anthony Fantano's name on a Strokes album. The lyric, from "Lonely in the Future": "stick to the technical cuz that's great, but you would not recognize art in any age."
Some backstory. In 2024 Fantano gave the Voidz album a NOT GOOD and pointed out that its cover art was AI-generated. Casablancas has been swinging back ever since, first on Joe Talbot's podcast, where he said Fantano's taste is "trash" and that he should stick to describing how records are made. Now it's pressed into CD and vinyl. The same song reportedly takes shots at The Weeknd, Harry Styles, John Legend, and Josh Groban, but Fantano is the only one named.
Fantano's whole response video is him being as confused as everyone else, because, as he points out, he's a Strokes fan. One of his favorite bands of the 2000s. And the AI art line writes itself: "very ironic to be making the claim that i can't recognize art when you clearly think nothing of presenting your music with ai art."
But the ending is the best part. Fantano's buying the album. "my name is in that sh*t, i got to buy it."
