Caught at Medium Sized Backyard fresh off one of the first live performances of new material, the Athens, Georgia duo sat down with Medicine Box for a conversation that wandered from songwriting philosophy to Spider-Man discourse without ever losing its thread.
On Playing New Songs Live
Medicine Box: You guys pulled up and played some tunes for us. Walk us through some of those and what you're most excited about - those records being performed live. How does that feel?
hey, nothing: That was like some of the first times we've ever performed them. We hadn't practiced with the band in maybe two months, so we were really, really scared. But obviously our band is freaking phenomenal - and most importantly, us. We all came prepared and just rocked it.
On Writing Together
Medicine Box: When you're writing together, do you feel like you're trying to surprise each other, or more trying to understand each other?
hey, nothing: Both. A mix of both. For me specifically, I'm always trying to one-up him. I want to bring something that's going to impress you or make you think. But then also, coming up with a lyric and diving deeper into it to find out what it actually means - that's the trying to understand each other part.
